One day, as I jogging in the morning, I saw a Spanish School in Socorro (Escuela Hablamos Español-EHE Spanish school). I did not hesitate to knock at the door to inquire. I was given both indescribable and indefinable welcome, which triggered my desire to start learning Spanish the following day. It is not fun to assert from the truth that, within a month the level of my Spanish language suddenly improved, I attributed that sudden progress to the qualified teachers, who are masters of Spanish Language content in all the four examinable language skills.

It was really great time to learn Spanish in EHE, Socorro. Before going to Soccoro, I was a little bit afraid of security and confidence which I can really learn Spanish well. However, it was just waste of time! It was so fun, and I really enjoyed learning Spanish there. EHE provides the specialized-private lesson to each student and student can learn Spanish with their pace and can actually learn what they want to learn by talking with their professors such as DELE, conversation etc. In addition, unlike to the big cities where the security is unstable, Socorro provides a perfect safe environment. I had never been in bad situation such as robbery, violence etc. I should rather say that people of Socorro are really kind and I was really surprised by their kindness when I first arrived there. Moreover, Soccoro is a place which has a long history and famous place for the coffee production. I was able to experience a lot of events and also I was able to do a lot of extreme sports at Sangil (next to Soccoro) at really cheap place. Therefore, I can definitely say that EHE and Soccoro gave me a great and fun chance to learn Spanish there and I really appreciate with it.

Honestly, I didn’t intend to study at EHE at the first time I got there. My friend and I just were to stop by and see around the city, el Socorro, a beautiful and safe city where we had such a great time, and we eventually decided to stay in el Socorro and learn Spanish at EHE. That was because while studying at EHE, we could make friends with great and kind teachers, and the president family also took a good care of all the students of EHE. Although more than 8 months have passed since I left, I am still missing all the kind people and beautiful scenery there. And I have been practicing speaking and writing in Spanish with one of the teachers who taught me at EHE through Skype ever since I got back home. For students, especially the ones who want to learn Spanish in a small city at peace, I highly recommend this school, EHE.

I can definitely say my time in Socorro has been unforgettable. Being a part of such an incredible town and a country, as well as being welcomed to a un unfamiliar approach showed me that there is a whole new perspective to live and learn across the globe from the far east. All the qualified faculty at school gave me the full opportunity to speak out my opinions in Spanish. Moreover, in regards to the living, they let me know their precious advice to widen the expansion of my sight. What all based me around was an amazing food, culture and people. I met nice neighbors and families with such pureness and a big heart full of love. That obviously made my life richer. I must say that this has been a wonderful experience not only academically, but personally as well. If you are a student in Socorro, I strongly suggest you to try your best to be part of this beautiful community, as you will take home with you much more than you expect.

EHE is just a few blocks up from the park, and the awesome (in the original sense of the word: AWE-some!) Catedral de Nuestra Señora de El Socorro – its beauty is stunning, but make sure to ask a local about the mermaid! Though often thought of a small town, Socorro has everything you could want: restaurants serving both Colombian food and international cuisine, bars where you can dance and soak in the culture, parks, and traditional markets. Experiencing this small town is a great compliment to your studies, as you will get to mingle with locals who are so excited to know you and show you their culture. As it is such a small town, there are very few foreigners here; this makes everyone very excited to talk to the foreigner, which is immensely helpful in practicing your Spanish! This is one thing I know for sure wouldn’t happen in a big city (or even San Gil next door where there are many foreigners).
