Bungee Jumping in San Gil
I am currently studying Spanish at EHE Spanish School in the centre of Santander, in a town called El Socorro. El Socorro is about a 30 minute bus drive to San Gil. This weekend, I had the chance to visit San Gil, which is one of my favourite towns in Colombia.
It is one of the greatest experiences of my life
San Gil is a small Andean city in Northern Colombia, famous for the range of adventure sports. There are countless number of activities to do such as bungee jumping, rafting, abseiling as well as the El Gallineral natural park, one of the most beautiful parks I have ever seen in my life!
San Gil’s perfect for foreigners from all over the world just to have a feel of its natural and peaceful environment. The locals are willing to practice and speak Spanish with, you as they are very interested in learning about you.
This time, I went bungee jumping and I can testify that it is one of the greatest experiences of my life, and when presented with the opportunity. I think everyone should do it! The feeling and the rush it gave me was crazy.
Firstly, the staff will help you get into the safety gear (and trust me, there is a lot of gear!). Then once you are safe and sound, you are taken to the crane which takes you to the top of the 70m structure. FINALLY, you get to the top and this is where the real drama begins. For me, it was terrifying. I have never felt so much fear in my life, standing over the most beautiful, yet scary view. I took a deep breath and just jumped.
Before I knew it, it was back where I started. I can’t believe I did it, but I’m so happy I pushed myself to do this once in a lifetime experience. Until next time San G
